Organize bookmarks

In Safari, you use your bookmark list to organize bookmarks.

Note:Your bookmark list contains one or more of the following special collections that you can’t reorganize or change: History, Address Book, Bonjour, and All RSS Feeds. To view your bookmark list, click the open-book icon.

Bookmark list button

View the bookmarks list

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open, and then click the open-book icon.

  2. To see the contents of a collection, click the collection’s name.

The bookmark list’s sidebar shows collections, such as History, Bookmarks Bar, and Bookmarks Menu, that are already set up. If you added your own collections, they also appear in the sidebar.

If you can’t see the list of bookmarks because Cover Flow view is covering it, drag up on the handle below the Cover Flow scroll bar.

Create a new collection

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open, and then click the open-book icon.

  2. Click the Add (+) button at the bottom of the bookmark list’s sidebar at the left. A folder icon appears in the sidebar.

To add a subfolder to a collection, select the collection, and then click the Add (+) button at the bottom of the list of bookmarks at the right.

  3. Replace the name “untitled folder” with a name of your choosing.

Move and copy bookmarks

Open Safari if it is not already open, and then click the open-book icon.

  • To move or copy a bookmark from one collection to another, select the collection that currently has the bookmark. Then select the bookmark, drag it to the left sidebar, and drop it on the collection where you want to keep it.

To keep the bookmark in both collections, hold down the Option key as you drag.

  • To reorder bookmarks or collections, drag them up and down in the list. You can reorder only collections you added yourself.

  • To nest collections, drag one collection into another.

Bookmark preferences also affect the way your bookmarks are organized, and whether bookmarks from your address book and from devices in your local network are included in your bookmark list.
